Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18 years of age
  • Driver License and safe driving record
  • Ability to legally work in the United States

Desirable Qualifications:

  • EMT-B or Paramedic Certification

The application period will be open from August 7 through 8:00 AM August 21, 2023. Applications can be found on the city website.

Candidates that completed COFIRE application and testing in the previous twelve months should be contacted by the City of Westminster Human Resources Department notifying the candidates to complete the city application.

Complete the Job Specific Performance Assessment (JSPA) which is a standardized physical ability test. The JSPA assesses a candidate's ability to perform the physical tasks that will be required of a firefighter on the job.   

Upon successful completion of the JSPA, candidates will bescheduled for an in-person interview with a panel made up of Fire Departmentand Human Resources personnel. The candidates from that interview that moveinto the top pool will be scheduled for an interview with the Executive Chiefs ofthe Fire Department.

The top candidates from the Executive Chief interviews willneed to complete a background packet and a thorough background investigation.

The top candidates from the Executive Chief interviews willbe scheduled for a medical examination and a psychological test.

Candidates passing all portions of the testing will besubject to a pre-employment drug screen. Upon hiring, new employees will befingerprinted and criminal histories will be reviewed to meet CJIS guidelines.Employees that are found to have criminal backgrounds at this point may bereleased from employment.

Candidates that successfully complete the process will behired and will need to complete the North Area EMT class. Upon passing thatcourse, the recruit will then participate in the North Area Fire Academy. Allcandidates (with or without EMT certification) will be required to complete theEMT class. All recruits will have to complete the North Area Fire Academy.
