Mayor Claire Carmelia was elected to Westminster City Council in November 2025.

As a Westminster community member for the past six years and the Front Range for more than a decade, Carmelia's decision to purchase a home across from Downtown Westminster reflects her investment and belief in the community's economic strength, vitality, and walkability.

Carmelia intends to bring her experience as a project manager in the technology industry for both public and private sectors to the City of Westminster. Carmelia has rolled out complex SaaS, infrastructure, and cybersecurity projects on time and on budget. Her professional experience and skills include successfully delivering complex and sensitive projects on tight deadlines while managing budget and resource constraints.

Education

Carmelia has a degree in Environmental Studies Policy with an Earth Science Geology Minor from SUNY Buffalo. Her education and volunteer work roots her as an environmental justice advocate foremost. It has provided her a deep understanding of the complex ecological issues facing the community, and the government's role in protecting residents' health and well-being.

Community Service

Carmelia's work with organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union, Business and Professional Women - Northwest Metro, Physicians for Social Responsibility Colorado, and The Action Center showcases her commitment to social and environmental justice. As a former foster-adoptee, Carmelia brings a unique perspective to her role, emphasizing her commitment to equity and closing gaps in opportunity. Her certification with the U.S. Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights underscores her dedication to human rights issues.
