Special Event - Temporary Use Permit

In Westminster, a Special Event - Temporary Use Permit is required for the following:

Public Property Special Events and Temporary Uses

Your special event or temporary use will:

  • Be open to the public,
  • Expect to draw 25 or more people, and
  • Will use City property, e.g., parks, trails, open space, sidewalks, streets, and City right-of-way.
  • Examples include trail races, corporate events on City property, community events/festivals on City property, food truck sales at City parks, block parties, etc. For food truck sales on City-owned properties, please email Cultural Affairs Coordinator Kate Cooke or call 303-658-2711.

Private Property Special Events and Temporary Uses

Your special event or temporary use will:

  • Be open to the public,
  • Expect to draw 25 or more people, and
  • Expands the use of the private property out of the building footprint and into the parking lot and/or onto an adjacent property or into the street to provide additional parking or event/temporary use space.
  • Involves outdoor sales on private property e.g., food trucks, temporary merchandise sales, etc.
  • Examples include tent sales, outdoor car shows, outdoor educational events with multiple tents, outdoor music events, farmers markets, craft markets, community festivals, food truck sales, chile roasting, holiday tree lots, temporary business sales/services, etc.

Special Event - Temporary Use Permit - Application Requirements

Before you access the eTRAKiT permit portal, please read the instructions for completing a Special Event - Temporary User Permit application as they provide you with the information that you will need to provide as part of your application.

The City charges a $100 application fee when you submit your application through eTRAKiT. Other fees may apply based on your event. These will be identified during the review process.

Before starting your Special Event - Temporary Use Permit application, please work with City staff to ensure that the venue you want to use is available. The City requires that your completed Special Event - Temporary Use application be submitted at least 45 days prior to your Special Event - Temporary Use. Exceptions to this deadline may be made at the discretion of the City depending on the particular circumstances. Some processes, such as insurance and liquor licensing, may take time to complete,

Application reviews are typically completed in 3 to 5 business days. If approved, you will receive an approved Special Event - Temporary Use Permit that notes any specific requirements and any other required permits from the City. You will need to have this permit with you for the duration of the special event - temporary use.

Block Parties

The City of Westminster encourages residents to host block parties in their neighborhood to build community connections. To that end, block party permits are not charged an application fee. We do ask that you complete an application form so that we can ensure the safety of your event.
