Tree Limb Recycling & Mulch
Residents are encouraged to recycle their tree limbs to reduce landfill use and provide valuable mulch. Limb chipping and free mulch are available for Westminster residents.
The first tree limb recycling event will be held March 14, 2026. Our last limb collection event will be November 14, 2026.
From March through November, the City hosts free tree limb recycling events for residents to dispose of broken/downed or cut tree limbs free of charge. Emergency tree limb recycling events are also held throughout the year in the event of tree-damaging storms. Each recycling event is listed on the calendar below. The City turns all the tree limbs into mulch that residents can pick up free of charge. For more information on mulch pick up, see the self-serve mulch site tab.

Self-Serve mulch will open March 3, 2026 while supplies last.
Every March, the City's free, self-serve, self-loading mulch site opens to Westminster residents. The mulch offered by this program is a product of the material collected during the City's free tree limb recycling events held throughout the year. The mulch site remains open to the public until supply runs out.
What to Know
- Please use caution when driving into the site, and avoid visiting during snowy and wet conditions to avoid getting stuck in mud.
- Please note that users will need to provide their own tools to load mulch and haul it away.
- Mulch can be self-loaded into your containers, or if staff is available to help, they can load mulch into the back of your pickup. The City is not liable for any vehicle damages while loading mulch.
- Tree limbs, debris or dumping are not allowed at this site. Illegal dumping is subject to Westminster Municipal Code regulations.
Hours
The self-serve site opens to residents on March 3 and is open from 7 am to 7 pm daily until supply runs out.

Benefits of Mulch & Proper Application
- Reduces watering needs by reducing evaporation and retaining moisture in the ground
- Assists with weed control
- Improves soil quality and creates free organic nutrients for soil
- Moderates soil temperatures
- Reduces erosion
- Can serve as a barrier to keep lawnmowers and weed-eaters away from trees and other plants
- Spread mulch evenly at a depth of 2 to 4 inches
- Do not place mulch against tree trunks and avoid forming "volcanoes"
Residents can recycle their Christmas trees free of charge by dropping them off in the lower parking lot of City Park Fitness Center. The City turns the trees into mulch for our parks and public spaces. Please remove ornaments, decorations, tree stands, and plastic bags before disposal. Dumping of any other materials is prohibited.
