Pressure Zone 3 Elevated Tank Sunset Ridge Tank Replacement Project

Project Overview

The City of Westminster is investing $9 million to construct a new elevated water tank on the site of old storage units. This water tank will hold 3 million gallons of drinking water and replaces the old Sunset Ridge  elevated tank that was first built in 1963 and aged out of operation.

Project Update

This project was completed in July 2020. Thank you for your patience!

Construction activities will be on-going over a two-year period with completion anticipated for the summer of 2020.

Project Impact

The work includes complex high-angle operations that require a long-term construction period and mobilization of specialized construction equipment (see rendering of new tank below). Due to the proximity of this project to you and other customers, the city is taking special precautions to minimize disruption and inconvenience to your daily routine, including:

  • Hiring a specialty contractor with high qualifications specifically for this type of work.
  • Restricting work hours to Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to limit the impact of construction equipment and work noise. Weekend and evening work will only be permitted if special circumstances arise.
  • Careful monitoring of contractor compliance to state and local permit requirements for noise and dust control.
  • Sequencing the work to minimize the need for water service disruptions.

For general questions, concerns or comments, please contact the city’s Project Manager Dan Strietelmeier at 303-658-2179 or dstriete@westminsterco.gov. Thank you for your patience during this important capital improvement project. We look forward to maintaining a high-level of service for you now and into the future.
