35 years of Open Space celebrated with video series

To celebrate 35 years of the open space preservation and stewardship, staff will be at different open space locations in the city throughout the year, connecting with residents and highlighting unique features in a new #OnTheTrail video series.

Westminster had unprecedented growth and development in the 1980s and was on its way to becoming another dense metropolis void of expansive mountain views, wildlife corridors and natural beauty.

Luckily, it didn’t come to that. In 1985, Westminster voters approved a sales tax to acquire and preserve open space for future generations.

“Westminster would not be what it is today without the open space program,” said Open Space Manager Rod Larsen. “We would not have the 3,100 acres of open space preserved that we do today.”

You can catch each #OnTheTrail video on the city’s YouTube, Instagram and Parks, Recreation and Libraries Facebook pages.
